Turkey - Adviser on mediation to the Turkish Ministry of Justice
In 2006, CMI was retained by the Turkish Ministry of Justice to advise on the scope for reforms to introduce mediation into the Turkish legal system.
A initial research and inception phase, involving extensive meetings with a wide range of stakeholders in three different regions of the country, led to the submission of CMI's report outlining recommendations on the development of mediation.
Following that, in January 2007 CMI was retained to advise the Ministry of Justice on specific aspects of mediation implementation, including legislation and procedural law amendments, working with the Ministry's Legislation Commission, advising on regulatory structures, and working with judiciary and other key stakeholders to develop a common vision and understanding of mediation and how it should develop.
